Next, think about the age of the appliance and how often you use it. If you are looking for oven repairs, for instance, but have had the appliance for a number of years and use it on a daily basis, then its value will have decreased, making it less worth fixing. Parts might be hard to get hold of for very old machines and this makes the cost of repair more expensive. Older machines also tend to be less reliable as they age, so consider whether this fault is just the start of your problems and it will deteriorate further as time goes on. 

Then, age is also a factor in efficiency. Newer machines on the market tend to be built with energy efficiency in mind, more so than older ones, so you could save money over the longer term by buying a more efficient model.

If you’re reluctant to pay out for a new machine without further information, it’s well worth asking a qualified technician to come and diagnose the fault. They will be able to give you an expert opinion on whether repair is an option and if so, how much that will cost. You can then balance up the expense of the repair against the value of a replacement appliance.
